Teachers Supporting Students and Their Families in a School-Wide Advisory Model
Student & Family Advisory (SFA) is a research-based school-wide practice that provides all students in
middle and high school with the support they need to feel attached to school; succeed in school academically,
socially, and emotionally; and graduate ready for the rigors of college and high quality careers. Trained faculty
advisors meet at least once each week with their group of 12-15 students who form a tight-knit community of
learners. In addition, faculty advisors communicate monthly with the parents/caregivers of their students. They provide multi-year
support by staying connected to their students the entire time they are enrolled in the school. SFA includes all students in the
school; all teachers, administrators, and other qualified school staff; and school and community-based support service
providers.

Teachers Supporting One Another to Build Instructional Capacity
PCLT partners with schools to develop cross-disciplinary or content-area teams of teachers, also known as Professional Learning
Communities (PLC's), who work with the same students and share common-planning-time each week, thereby encouraging
ongoing dialogue, building instructional capacity, and shifting the culture of the school from a place where teachers
work in isolation to one where teachers collaborate.
Teachers Supporting Healthy Relationships Between Dating Students
Safe Dates is an evidence-based program taught by school faculty to middle and high school students that helps students
recognize the difference between caring, supportive relationships and controlling, manipulative, or abusive dating
relationships. The Safe Dates curriculum was authored by Vangie Foshee, Ph.D. and Stacey Langwick, Ph.D. and is published
by Hazelden. PCLT is the sole organization licensed by Hazelden to provide Safe Dates training to teachers in the state
of New Jersey.
