Family Leadership: Family Connection (FC) is a program that focuses on improving communication between adults and their
children, while also increasing school-family-community connectedness and increasing family involvement in schools. "Family"
is broadly defined to include all adult caregivers of children, such as parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and
other guardians. A caregiver-to-caregiver approach is at the heart of this solution. Family leaders are provided with training
that has two purposes: (1) to improve the ways they communicate with their own children; and (2) to enable them to lead
workshops for other caregivers. By providing families with this engaging, caring support, school staff and administrators
are simultaneously strengthening their own relationships with families, helping transform schools from what are often to
parents anonymous intimidating institutions into ones that are inviting personal communities.
