ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PROGRAMS

I’ve seen some changes in many of the students already through intensifying the message of respect. The activities help drive home the importance of having respect for themselves and for each other.

Character Education for Elementary School Students

PEACEMAKERS is an engaging school-based character program designed to teach pro-social student behaviors in a cooperative learning format to students ages 4-12. PEACEMAKERS brings small groups of students together to improve listening, critical thinking, communication, and social problem-solving skills through a series of hands-on activities and discussions. Typically, schools target students in three grades, once in the early years (pre K-2), once during the intermediate grades (3-4), and a third time in the final year of elementary school. Students in their last year who have experienced PEACEMAKERS can then serve as positive role models and peer helpers for younger students in the program. Teachers are trained in cooperative learning methods, providing the context for activities in the PEACEMAKERS curriculum. They then learn how to facilitate these lessons by experiencing them firsthand. PEACEMAKERS promotes a cooperative, caring environment among students of different ages and backgrounds.
